Live Product / Grunger FX / $9

Dirty vocals with stage-edge attitude.

Grunger is a Max for Live vocal grunge texture device - not a full channel strip. It pushes clean vocals toward grit, face-glued density, and the howl edge of a mic too close to the wedge. Six dials. Instant character.

01 / Action

See it in action

From clean vocal in to Grunge, Squash, Squeal, and Room - six knobs of stage-edge texture.

02 / Features

Six knobs

Tone Fast spectral attitude for vocals. Darker, brighter, or a mid scoop/push - lock the skeleton of the sound in one twist. Not a multi-band parametric EQ; a character tilt built for speed.
Grunge The core dirt dial. 0-50 warm grit builds in, 50-80 broken-cone tear, 80-100 loose-jack buzz. Staged vocal grunge with a clear arc from dirty to destroyed.
Mix How thick the grit layer sits. The dry anchor stays under the dirt - you add texture, you don't erase the performance. Not a classic complementary dry/wet fader.
Squash Face-glue pressure. Dense, consistent energy across loud and quiet takes - the vocal sits closer and more solid without turning into a transparent master-bus compressor.
Squeal PA proximity. Push the mic closer to the wedge: ringing first, then howl. Stage-edge feedback energy for vocals - not guitar-amp feedback.
Room Short early reflections and live air. Puts the vocal on the lip of the stage without drowning it in hall or plate reverb soup.

Tube UI that follows the grit. A vacuum-tube panel that glows with wet energy - filament heat, plate glow on Squeal, Room outline ghosts, and a Squash GR LED. Visual feedback with stage attitude, not a metering suite.

03 / How

How it works

  • 1. Set Tone - lock spectral attitude for the vocal
  • 2. Push Grunge - ride from warm grit into broken cone and loose jack
  • 3. Set Mix - decide how thick the grit layer sits over the dry anchor
  • 4. Add Squash - glue the vocal to the face with denser, more even pressure
  • 5. Bring in Squeal - move closer to the wedge until ring becomes howl
  • 6. Finish with Room - add stage air, not a reverb hall
04 / Why

Why Grunger

  • Not another saturator - Grunge moves through warm grit, broken cone, and loose jack as one intentional arc
  • Not guitar feedback - Squeal is mic-to-wedge proximity: ring -> howl on the vocal itself
  • Not a full vocal strip - texture-only by design - no DeEss / full EQ / channel-strip front end
  • M4L native - built for Ableton Live workflows
05 / Ideal for

Ideal for

  • Lead vocals that need grit without rebuilding a rack
  • Alt / indie / grunge revival edges
  • Electronic and lo-fi vocals with Mix keeping dry performance anchored
  • Live-sound edge textures - Squeal for wedge proximity, Room for stage air
  • Vocal bus character before bus polish
