Live Product / Reeler FX / $19

Full-chain tape emulator for Ableton Live.

Reeler puts an entire reel-to-reel tape machine in your signal chain - from input saturation to physical wear, wow and flutter, beat-synced tape stop, and tonal shaping. Every stage is modeled from real tape physics; every parameter stays locked to your tempo grid.

01 / Action

See it in action

Walk the full tape chain - Drive, Noise, Wow and Flutter, Wear, and beat-synced Stop/Start.

02 / Why

Why Reeler

Most tape plugins give you saturation and call it a day. Reeler gives you the whole machine - drive, oxide hiss, capstan wobble, worn-out dropout, and mechanical stop-and-start.

Shape from subtle analog warmth to destroyed VHS texture with one-knob-per-stage simplicity.

03 / Chain

Signal chain

Drive -> Noise -> Wow & Flutter -> Wear -> Stop/Start -> Tone -> Output
Drive 2x oversampled analog-modeled saturation with even-harmonic character. Loudness-compensated so perceived volume stays constant as you push harder. At zero, the signal passes through untouched.
Noise Three-path mono noise generator: shaped tape hiss, mains hum with harmonics, and sparse crackle impulses - authentic analog character from subtle to obvious.
Wow & Flutter IEC 60094 dual-band pitch modulation. Wow (0.5-6 Hz): multi-harmonic LFO + filtered noise, up to +/-5 ms. Flutter (6-100 Hz): capstan eccentricity and scrape flutter, up to +/-1 ms. Mono-summed modulation drives both channels identically.
Wear - 6 stages Pitch Wobble, HF Loss, Gain Instability, Soft Saturation, Azimuth Offset, and Random Dropout - all six scale linearly with one Wear knob. At zero, perfectly transparent.
Stop / Start Stop uses a quadratic deceleration curve with pitch-dive and volume fade. Start uses polynomial recovery with ~14% pitch overshoot. Hold freezes mid-cycle. Weight sets braking time: 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, or 4 beats. Release can interrupt brake mid-stop.
Tone + Output Tilt EQ: Dark path shelves at 1.2 kHz + dual LPF; Bright path boosts at 1.5 kHz + dual LPF. Output: LowCut 20-2000 Hz, HighCut 200-20000 Hz, Gain -24 to +12 dB.
04 / Tools

Creative tools

  • Inspire - randomize tone-shaping knobs in musical ranges; never touches output gain, stop/start, or weight
  • Undo - revert the last Inspire result
  • Reset - return every parameter to default
